I was trawling through the internut today reading an article reviewing the new Aphex Twin Syro album and the article brought up some very good points on the originality and direction of modern music, it basiclly asked, "is there any new music anymore?". This got me thinking, there kinda isnt :/ Everything nowdays has become a rehash of something done years before or unlistenable to! I want to maybe work on creating a new genre of music that is 1- Innovative 2- original and 3- has potential! This is gonna be hard as fuck as its like asking to imagine a new colour, but there must be new sounds out there?! I'd say achieving this is likely to be fucking difficult, which is probably why there's little out there already at the moment that does. However, if you can, then fuck! That'd just be perfect!!
You gotta be careful you don't like get too caught up in all. Like I remember the Clash in their later years made an album that was more or less them messing around with all different sounds to try and make something different, and the music itself kinda suffered as a result. Like I been studying all these 'experimental films' and shit. They all like trying to do something so completely different that it just ends up boring as fuck to watch.
Saying that though, new sound and genre is fucking exactly what music needs. Not just in music, but society as a whole, there used to be clear movements. Like 60's, Punk, hardcore, rap etc. Nowadays its just little groups of people doing watered down copies of stuff before, with everything in general. No one's looking to do anything new now, in music, writing, possibly films, I suppose you can say fashion. not that that one particularly matters. No one tries to make changes in the world politically either. Society has just become so moderated that everything is at a standstill and I've been fucking hoping for years that some new movement culturally as a whole is going to appear at somepoint and things are gonna start moving places again. I mean all'a this shit I've said is kinda off topic but it relates, a new genre and sound in music would be a significant part of all of this.
There is definitely something about there that can still be done. It's just difficult to find cos there's no one else really doing it. But if you can find anything new that works and sounds good...then this maybe the dawn of something very promising for music as a whole. I will piss a ship if this can be achieved. It'd be like EVERYTHING that's currently missing in the world. Find it. Fucking find it!!
